Frequently asked questions

Where will my massage take place?

Your massage will take place in your home, apartment, or workplace. I will come 15 minutes before our session to set up & I will provide everything we will need for our session.

Will there be enough space in my home for the session?

I will need, at minimum, a space of about 4’x9’ to be able to set up & move around the table. I am happy to help move coffee tables or furniture to make room. We will talk about this before your first session & if you have any concerns or know you do not have the space, please let me know & we can try to figure out another option or I can refer you to some other lovely massage therapists near by.

…Do I have to be naked during the massage?

No. The most important thing is for you to feel safe & comfortable, it is entirely up to you what you feel comfortable wearing. AND I do prefer my clients to be fully unclothed & free from any jewelry.

Will I be covered during the session?

You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm & comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed.

What parts of my body will be massaged?

A typical, full-body session will include work on your back, arms, legs, glutes, feet, hands, head, neck, & shoulders. Abdominal Massage is also an option that we can chat before the session.

What should I do during the massage?

Do whatever your body needs to do to be comfortable. Relax on to the table, move if you need to move, stretch, itch if you need to. I will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session, such as lifting your arm. Some people focus on the area that I am working, making note of how their bodies respond. Others will use it as a time to disengage & melt away. I do ask that you communicate if & when need more or less pressure, notice anything peculiar, need to use the bathroom, or anything else relevant to the session. If you have any questions regarding the session or about the particular technique you are receiving, please ask!

How will I feel afterwards?

We can discuss before the session how you are hoping to feel afterwards… Do you want to be alert & focused, feeling energized? Or do you want to relax & enjoy the peace & calm? The majority of my clients will joke about a short “massage drunk” following a session where you feel very relaxed & a little dazed. If it is your first massage, it is not uncommon to have a slight headache or possibly even some nausea. We may be moving a lot of built up toxins, lactic acid, lymphatic fluid, etc. through your body in a relatively short time. This is one of the reasons for making sure you are hydrated before & after a massage. Many clients experience more mobility, relief from long term aches & pains, clarity, or a sense of “openness” in the areas that were worked.

What are the benefits of massage & bodywork?

Massage & bodywork can help release chronic muscular tension & pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental & physical fatigue & stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture & reduce blood pressure. Massage & bodywork is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety & create an overall sense of well-being.

Are there any medical conditions that would make massage or bodywork inadvisable?

Yes. That's why it's imperative that, before you begin your session, you fill out a general health history form. It is very important that you inform me of any existing health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage or bodywork prior to any session. Depending on the condition, approval from your doctor may be required.
